  • Spanish people live longer. Spain is the second oldest nation in the world. Only the Japanese have a longer life expectancy.
  • In Spain there are four official languages (Castilian, Catalan, Basque and Galician), three unofficial regional languages (Aranese, Aragonese and Asturian), and several more dialects.
  • Soccer represents a century-long rivalry: Spain is home to two of the most popular fútbol teams in the world: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. These two teams have been competing for centuries, nipping at each other’s heels and hosting some of the best players the world has ever seen.
  • As everybody knows, the Spaniards have a completely different life rhythm form other Europeans as they usually have lunch between 1 and 3 and dinner between 9 and 10. 
  • Most Spaniards, every evening after work, they go for a walk, have a drink or dine something in the local restaurant. 
  • About 60 million tourists go to Spain every year, which makes it the fourth most visited country in the world.
  • The very famous Flamenco is not actually a dance, it’s a musical style, and sometimes it has dancing in it.
  • The 5 most visited festivals in Spain: The Sanfermines in Pamplona, The April Fair in Sevilla, the Fallas in Valencia, the Tomatina in Buñol and the Cádiz carnival gather between them about 12 million visitors per year, between national and foreign visitors.

  • Amorfo – without form, can be used to refer to an ugly person
  • Achuchar – to hug someone to the point that they can't breathe
  • Agobio – feeling overwhelmed
  • Antro – a very bad drinking joint
  • A saco paco – to do something to the last consequences
  • Atosigar – to harass
  • Botellón – a meeting with friends in a park or public place while drinking alcohol
  • Cachas – one who is all muscle
  • Cabreada – hopping mad
  • Catar – to taste
  • Comerse un marrón – to get into a lot of trouble
  • De morros – in a mood
  • Empollón/a – a young person who studies all the time and has no social life
  • Estar de bajón – to feel very depressed and unwilling to do anything
  • Farsante – phoney
  • Guiri – non Spaniard, mostly used for tourists
  • Gorrón – one that's always begging and doesn't want to pay for stuff
  • Jeta – cheeky
  • Lo pillo (pillarlo) – I get it
  • Mamón – someone very stupid
  • Peña – a bunch of people
  • Resaca – a hangover
  • Resacón – a huge hangover
  • Vidorra – to live the life you're meant to live
